About the microphone and headphones test
Start the microphone to watch the RMS level, peak and waveform of the received signal. Record up to ten seconds and play the clip locally. Left, right and both channel tests work without microphone permission.
dBFS levels describe the digital signal received by the browser, with a visual floor of −90 dBFS; they do not measure sound pressure in dB SPL or physical microphone sensitivity. A peak near 0 dBFS suggests possible clipping, not a definitive diagnosis. Current settings and capabilities are browser-reported values, not calibrated measurements. Echo cancellation, noise suppression and automatic gain control can change the signal. Output samples are short and start at low volume; confirming the channel, connection and physical loudness depends on your hearing. Audio stays in this session and is discarded when the test stops.
Audio test FAQ
How do I choose another microphone?
Start the test and allow access. If multiple inputs are available, choose another from the Microphone menu; the previous capture stops.
How do I play a short recording?
With the microphone on, choose Record clip and stop whenever you like. Recording stops automatically after ten seconds. Use Play clip to hear it; a new recording replaces the previous one.
How do I check the sides of my headphones?
Use Left, Right and Both separately and listen for which side plays the sample. Stop sound ends playback immediately.
How do I select other headphones or speakers?
If your browser offers Choose output, use it and allow the selection. It applies to channel samples and recorded clips. Otherwise, use the default device output.
